The concept for this design came into being in 2019 when two members of our community, Derek Barrett & Eoin Hoctor, were discussing the need for a design that represents Shannon.

Derek was familiar with the work of Audrey Cantillon, an artist & illustrator who grew up in Shannon herself. Audrey designed "The Wall" in Kinsale, so Derek approached her to help design something in the same style for Shannon with the intent of using it in various locations throughout the town.

Within the design there are many nods to the history of Shannon for you to find. One especially prominent feature lays at the foot of the design, which follows the topography of the River Shannon and the five points which jut out into it.
