This past weekend, Shannon Musical Society attended the AIMS (The Association of Irish Musical Societies) awards in the INEC in Killarney. The AIMS weekend is a yearly celebration of all the hard work that Ireland's musical societies have put in this past show season, so it’s basically like the Irish Tony Awards for amateur musical theatre. Because there are so many societies in Ireland, they break the nominations into two groups, Sullivan and Gilbert, and in each group there are 52 societies so 104 all together.
This year we were delighted to be nominated in three categories in the Gilbert section: Best House Management, where we got runners up,  Best Youth Performance where James Cullinan also received runner up for playing Flounder, and last but not least, Aidan Fox won Best Actor in a Supporting Role for playing Ursula in our production of The Little Mermaid. This year they added the Best Youth Performance category, so it was a huge achievement to be nominated in its first year. We are so proud of James and Aidan and we can’t wait to work with them again in the future.
We would like to thank our audiences for always coming to our shows each year. It means so much to the cast and crew! We’d also like to thank our main sponsors Shannon Springs Hotel, Ei Electronics and all our sponsors and patrons for always supporting our society. Shannon Musical Society prides ourselves in our productions each year and we are always looking for new members to join us, so be on the look out for audition information on all our social media platforms for our 2025 production, Cry-Baby.
