Shannon's population rose to ten-thousand people during our last Census, so this year is the first where we were competing in Category F, which is the Extra Large Town Category. Shannon maintained its Bronze Award despite this change which is a great achievement for us and the town. To meet the requirements to obtain this award, we had to fall within a set range of the score achieved by the winning town.
Year-on-year we increase our points by constantly pushing forward with new projects and continued hard-work. We received an extra 12 points overall, which is no easy task. Shannon Tidy Towns boasts a team that is comprised of great, hard-working and enthusiastic volunteers from a variety of backgrounds. Everyone brings their own set of skills which keeps our ideas and plans fresh and constantly moving forward.
Shannon is lucky to have residents that support us and our efforts and we would also like to give a shoutout to our local business sponsors, whose support is invaluable to us. We regularly meet with the team at the Local Municipal District Office in the Town Hall and have developed a good working relationship with them throughout the years which is greatly appreciated by our team.
If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, we're always looking for more volunteers! Every hour of help adds-up and helps lighten the load for everyone. If you're interested, we encourage everyone to speak with us to learn more, as there are many ways that you can help out. In addition to the usual weeding and litter picking that we do, we also work in the areas of event management, grant applications, designing floats for the St. Patrick's Day Parade, social media, growing & potting plants and biodiversity.
Shannon Tidy Towns is a great way to meet people, get out and about, and achieve goals collectively for the betterment of our town while bringing your own skills & interests to the table!
