Shannon Town Community Wetlands Amateur Photo Competition 2024

Celebrating the Wetlands and Biodiversity of County Clare for World Wetlands Day!
Shannon Town Community Wetlands Amateur Photo Competition 2024

The Shannon Town Community Wetlands Committee, with the support of the Local Authority Waters Programme and the Shannon Airport Group held an Amateur Photo Competition which was open to all. The theme for submissions was: “Celebrating the Wetlands & Biodiversity of County Clare”.

We launched the competition on World Wetlands Day, the 2nd of February 2024, with a 1st place prize for each age group of €200.

Despite being gusty and prone to bouts of light rain, we had a great turn out for the Prize Giving Ceremony on the 28th of May. We were also delighted to officially unveil the new Wetlands sign (see below). The marquis added a touch of style (and much needed shelter at times) and the biscuits, pecan cake, tea & coffee were lovely and very much appreciated!

The 1st Place Prize in the Senior Category was awarded to Jimmy Doyle with his submission of a “Native Flower Taken in Shannon Wetlands”. This prize was sponsored by Shannon Airport Group and presented by their Sustainability Specialist Arek Gdulinski.

In our Junior Category, Jack Myers was awarded the 1st Place Prize for his submission of “A Rainbow over Shannon Estuary”, which was presented by Local Councillor Donna McGettigan and sponsored by the Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO).

The remaining prizes were all sponsored by us at Shannon Town Community Wetlands and presented by Cllr. Donna McGettigan.
